Production: Rent

After several months of negotiations ION were proud to announce they had been granted the rights to the North East premiere of RENT the musical.
Following on from the 2008, critically acclaimed production of A Chorus Line, ION once again brought together a cast of extremely talented performers from around the North East following an exhaustive audition process.
Jonathan Larson’s revolutionary rock opera Rent follows a year in the lives of seven friends struggling to express themselves through their art and living for today as they believe there is “No day but today”. Against the gritty backdrop of New York’s East Village, these friends strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, jealousy and the AIDS epidemic.
Inspired by Puccini’s classic opera “La Boheme,” “Rent” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Obie Award, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, four Tony Awards and three Drama Desk awards.
The show played to fantastic audiences each night and received great critical acclaim, as well as helping to bring in many young people who had never been to see a show at a theatre before.
